GROTTAGLIE: CITY OF CERAMICS
Grottaglie, the city of ceramics, is found at about twenty-two kilometres from Taranto the city of ancient gold jewellery. While the chief town peculiar gold jewellery tradition historically starts and ends in the Magna Greek period, the artisan production and tradition of Grottaglie is growing even today. Grottaglie's importance and tradition is maintained thanks to the quarter of town that takes its name from this craftsmanship and the school, which has had a very important role in the diffusion of ceramics. It is not surprising that Grottaglie is part of narrow circle of twenty-eight cities of ceramics officially recognised in Italy.
